"You're Welcome."

Have you ever wondered why a customer service representative asks you if there is anything else they can help you with? Its an invitation to continue to seek support for what ever it is you need help with. It is not an opportunity to bash the company or its representatives.

Now on to something more homey. I want to welcome all of the readers (4 or 5 of you) to Schwah! I hope he has good stuff to contribute to your reading pleasure.

BTW, this month, (Oct 27) is the release of Fallout 3. How this may mean absolutely nothing to many of you, but if you play RPG games, you really need to get this game. I will be writing a review of sorts when I start playing. Probably a running commentary.

Well, back to the grind.

What I hate is when you ask "is there anything else I can do" The customer responds w/, "yaeh, you can pay my bill" Or "Give me the winning lotto numbers"

That for some reason reason that just pisses me off.

I'm that guy.

You know, the one who calls with a tech problem that 99% of the other callers just don't know about or don't care to know about, and frankly, the company doesn't really seem to want you to know about - for example, DNS numbers for Qwest, or help setting up a supposedly compatible Netgear modem for a friend - I sit there on the phone with you for two or three hours sometimes. We may get pissed off at each other, throw some harsh words around here and there, but as the problem is coming to a resolution, and the tension starts dropping, we discuss how our respective days have went. New Operating Systems we've tried. Problems with (Service A) or problems working for (Service A) - and why you don't ever want to use (Service B). Ah, we laugh and poke fun at (Service B) for a while, the problem is finally resolved, and we both come out of the conversation with an odd feeling of kinship, if only on a technical level - you ask if there's anything else you can do for me, and I only say "make sure you have an excellent day, sir/madam". And I hope you do.

Cheers.
